Aussie Books for Zim (ABZ) is an Australian registered charity with deductible gift recipient status. We collect books and stationery from Australian communities, schools, families, and individuals to set up school libraries in rural Zimbabwe. ABZ seeks to improve literacy in these communities, so as to empower children with knowledge and the confidence to contribute to shaping the world they live in.
Awarded the Mayor's Excellence Award for outstanding contribution and community involvement in the City of Wollongong. Alfred, an enthusiastic volunteer who supports multiple programs, including Wollongong Living Books, and Aussie Books for Zim which provides second hand books to children in need, also, an honorary member of the International Golden Key Member Society.

The Zimbabwe Achievers Awards Australia honoured Dr Alfred Chidembo as 2019 recipient of ZAA Australia’s distinguished Philanthropic Leadership Award at the awards gala dinner held on the 23rd of November 2019 in Sydney.
Dr Alfred Chidembo is a distinguished and visionary giver who is being recognized for starting initiatives that make real change in the community, both in Australia and internationally. He is a PhD graduate in Materials Engineering from the Institute of Superconducting and Electronic Materials at the University of Wollongong. Upon completion of his studies, he set out to collect only 2,000 books to send to Zimbabwe to help children in his village in Mudzi District, Mutoko. Two months into it and 10,000 books later, together with his wife, Precious Mugadza, and Aussie Books for Zim was born in 2015.
Aussie Books for Zim is an Australian based charity that seeks to promote education and improve literacy in remote rural communities of Zimbabwe. The charity collects new and gently used books and stationery and ships them to rural Zimbabwe, where libraries are set up for the pupils and surrounding communities. To date, the organization has shipped 90 000 books and have set up 8 libraries in rural schools across the country.
